Tire Tread Scanner - User Guide

How to Perform a Measurement

Watch the video tutorial for a quick summary on how to perform a measurement.

How to Measure

  1. Install the Demo App and set it up for first use (see “How to Use the Tire Tread Demo App”)

  2. Press Open Scanner

Position Device Correctly

  1. (only on iOS) If on iOS, firstly detect tire by moving device back and forth slowly (the camera should be pointing at the tire)

  2. Align the tire overlay with the outer tire shoulder, keep approximately 20cm (pay attention to the audio or visual feedback)

  3. Once aligned, start the scan by tapping anywhere on the screen

Move Device Slowly Across the Tire Tread

  1. Move your device slowly and steady towards the inner tire shoulder, always keep a distance to the tire of approximately 20cm

  2. The Scan will automatically stop after approximately 7 seconds; the device will vibrate strongly and make a sound once the scan is done.

  3. Wait for the result

Dos, Don’ts & Scanning Tips

  • Make sure that no other tires are visible in the scan, especially no tires should be directly next to or on top of each other

  • Turn on the audio to hear the audio feedback

  • Make sure to record the tread and not the floor, tilt your phone accordingly while scanning

  • Make sure that the screen orientation lock setting of your OS is not active

  • Make sure you have a stable internet connection

How to Interpret the Results

  • The results screen, which appears automatically after the measurement, displays the tread depth in either mm or inches (depending on your configuration).

  • The measured value above the tire image represents the global tread depth of the entire tire. This value is calculated from all individual measurements.

  • The three measured values below the tire image represent the tread depth of the respective region (for more details, see Details), it’s not representing measurements of single grooves.

  • The Details button opens a PDF report with a visual representation of the tire tread.
